Text — Psalm 107
- Introduction
- We are living in a time when the news is depressing. Whether it’s on the local, national or world scene it seems like evil has just been turned loose.
- While all of these situations seem to trumpet the triumph of evil, I want to go to one of my favorite Psalms and remind us that it is just these types of situations that God redeems for his glory.
- I’d like to look at Psalm 107. I don’t intend to do a lot of commentary, because the message is self-evident. I hope, at the conclusion of the reading you will find your faith in God strengthened.
- Explanation of the text
- Psalm 107 opens stating its theme: Let the redeemed of the Lord say so (KJV). This is about testimony. And it’s about telling the story of how you were in trouble for various reasons and you called on the Lord and he saved you.
- The Psalmist has chosen five situations where we need redeemed:
- Wanders lost and unable to find a place
- The rebellious end up captives
- Fools end up at death’s door
- Merchants, business is threatened with destruction by forces of nature
- Cycle of oppression and prosperity
- Conclusion
- The evening news may be depressing, but God loves us and will redeem us if we turn to him.
